Artist's Description

Sri Anandamayi Ma's mother, Didima, was born in Sultanpur in East Bengal, in 1877, as Mokshada Sundari Devi. She was the eighth child in a pious and highly esteemed Brahmin family. At age 12, Mokshada was married to Bipin Bihari Bhattacharya, of Vidyakut in East Bengal, also from a highly respected family.

Anandamay Ma (born Nirmala Sundari Devi) was her second child.

In 1938, she was given sannyas by Swami Mangal Giri, receiving the name Swami Muktananda Giri. She left this world on August 7, 1970.
